Three Campuses Joint Seminar (NTU and NYCU and TMU)

2022-05-23

The Three-Universities Joint Seminar this year features three schools discussing different topics over THREE weeks. Due to COVID-19 had been fully online using Cisco Webex Meetings😎
Our PhD student, Jansen Marcos Cambia, presented on this topic " Influence of time interval from diagnosis to treatment on survival among the common cancers. ".
Meanwhile, our Master student, Thành Van Kim, presented on this topic " Hepatitis B Virus vaccination coverage and associated factors in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam ".
This conference was a success & we're looking forward to our next
meeting in the near future! 🤝👏
The following are the feedback of our students🤩
💎First-year Master student, Asli Moussa Houssein from Somaliland.
The joint seminar between TMU, IHP and NTU was an interesting way to get an initial glimpse of the different ideas and subjects that are discussed in the universities. Even though it was an online platform due COVID restrictions, it was still a good way to meet different people from all over the world and share our interest in public health while also learning about their research topics and discussing ways to move forward. I am probably biased but my favorite presentations belonged to Jansen and Thanh who are my fellow NYCU classmates but overall the research concepts presented from students from all three universities were fascinating and I hope that by next year we will be able to do the seminar in person.
💎First-year PhD student, Nai-Hwa Mei From Taiwan.
The joint TMU, NTU, and NYCU Seminars on International Health over a three-week time span allowed the gathering of current and future health experts. Despite the challenges put forth by the ongoing pandemic, through an online platform, the exchange of dialogue towards addressing global health issues was still possible.
I was truly in awe and proud of the presentations conducted by my classmates Jansen Cambia and Kim Thanh on the topics “Influence of the time interval from diagnosis to treatment on survival among the common cancers” and “Hepatitis B vaccine coverage and implications for intervention in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam”, respectively. Both gave an extremely clear and detailed presentation of their study background, source of data extraction, statistical analysis, and expected results. What seemed to be apparent was the poor disease awareness as demonstrated by communities, whereas low-quality diagnosis and treatment services also played a crucial part. As illustrated and suggested by both studies a delay in treatment and lack of prevention would only lead to detrimental, life-threatening consequences. Hence, with their high-quality output will we then be one step closer to improving and securing the health of all.

💎First-year PhD student, Alexie Basileyo from Philippines.
It is my utmost appreciation to commend Taipei Medical University, National Taiwan University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University for the recently conluded three-university joint seminar! The series of seminars has served as a venue of intellectual exchanges between students and faculty of TMU, NTU and NYCU on current pressing public health issues. Students of TMU have showcased very interesting topics such as water fluoridation, mental health after covid-19, lung cancer screening and many more during their global health briefings. It also highlighted the research study of Amy Leach on the effectivity of utilizing Anime' as a way to communicate and disseminate medical information. On the last day, our very own Mr. Jansen Cambia and Mr. Kim Thanh presented their thought-provoking research studies on common cancer and hepatitis B vaccination. I am very grateful that the three institutions organized this activity to keep students informed about the relevance of collaborative dialogue to discuss the latest public health issues and how to address such. I hope that this collaboration will continue and establish a tradition of sustainable academic discourses between TMU, NTU and NYCU. Thank you IHP-NYCU for the wonderful opportunity!
